Q who is the wbc for?
A it’s for everyone, initially the players who want to be involved, but longer term the possibilities are very varied and will depend on the imagination of those involved – it could be purely for pleasure, playing at someone’s wedding, at an old peoples’ home or something very different, it’s up to us and those who want to hear us
Q what is a ‘collective’?
A the aspiration is that it is self organised with no real leader apart from an initial burst of input from me to get people together and to do some of the initial administration – check back in a while to see how we have evolved!
Q are the members of the wbc paid?
A the assumption is no, unless we are asked to play at an event for which we decide it is proper to ask for money, or it may be appropriate to get travel expenses only
Q who decides what happens in wbc?
A the assumption is that we all do, although that could prove to be naïve or too idealistic, we will wait and see
Q where does the wbc meet to rehearse and perform?
A at present in a local venue in windsor
Q how often do you rehearse?
A not often – a key feature of the wbc is that it is not a ‘once a week gathering’ which is a massive commitment to all concerned and quickly gets stale – that then feeds into the next question…
Q … what standard should I be if I want to join wbc?A ideally you should be a ‘good player’ with some solid playing experience so you can cope with getting some music in the post to look it over, play it through, and then come together for 1 or 2 rehearsals and then be ready to play in front of people. that won’t appeal to everyone, but it will appeal to you if you have another career, or a family, or some other time consuming hobbies and activities – all of which describes me and therefore why I am keen to see if wbc works
if wbc is playing for a commercial event – you need to be good, and experienced in playing in a small, exposed group situation
Q what else should a member bring to wbc?
A there are other attributes that wbc needs too – integrity and the ability to commit and be held to a date, experienced enough to know and discuss your playing/technical limits and not be too nervous about playing in a small group in front of people, a sense of humour, honesty, that sort of thing
Q who is in wbc?
A it will change from time to time – for example our last few gatherings have been in quintet form
Q who does the admin of wbc?
A I (Matthew Tickle) do at the moment, but offers of help and suggestions of ideas are very welcome
Q i’ve got some more questions – who do I contact?
A get in touch via email or phone – 07876 144464, it would be great to hear from you!
